Do you have a Band-Aid? I just scraped my knee falling for you
Many college students have heard feeble pick-up lines, but according to David Colemen also known as The Dating Doctor, what is really unfortunate is the students who use them.
On Tuesday Jan. 31 Coleman, offered dating prescriptions for the students on campus in the Grande Ballroom. His goal: to help students find their “soul mate” without using cheesy pickup lines.
The atmosphere was light and casual as Coleman not only offered plenty of dating advice, but also brought his comedic routine that kept the audience engaged and laughing. His charismatic personality was evident through his boisterous jokes and sincere attention for each audience member.
Although more than half of the seats were empty, the students who attended were eager to listen and participate. One audience member, Raquel Hightower, opted to sit on the floor.
“I was so excited when I heard the Dating Doctor was coming to UVU. I knew I had to get a good seat, so when I was running a little late, I gladly sat on the floor rather than a chair.” Hightower said.
Aside from Coleman’s jokes, he was very informative and knowledgeable about the courting world. He teaches people how to find someone that will complete them and helps individuals become the best version of them, they can be. According to Coleman, this starts with self-confidence. Coleman tested the self-confidence of his audience.
“Raise your hand if you think you are an attractive person,” Coleman said.
The majority of hands went up.
“Now, raise two hands if you think you are really attractive,” Coleman said.
A little less, but still the majority of the audience raised both hands.
“Now, stand up if you think you are out-of-this-world attractive,” Colemen said.
A handful of enthusiastic students stood up.
Coleman, who often refers to himself as “Hitch,” began coaching people on how to date when he was in college.
“I was able to talk to women really well and keep them interested. My friends loved having me around because if I was there, so were the girls,” Coleman said.
He became known on campus as the best wingman around, so good that people began paying him to tag along on dates. After Coleman graduated he became a college advisor where he gave creative lectures such as “100 Creative Date Ideas.” This particular seminar became so popular that various businesses began hiring Coleman to give presentations. Today, Coleman performs about 3,000 shows per year, has appeared in several well-known magazines and coaches many famous clients.
