While Utah Valley students were enjoying Thanksgiving break in various ways, the Wolverines were busy making noise on the hardwood.

Whether it was the thrilling overtime win over Big East opponent Seton Hall or hitting the road to win a tough game against Utah State, Utah Valley has been firing on all cylinders this season.

In spite of the empty gym and the lack of fan support Utah Valley’s efforts haven’t gone unnoticed.

In the AP top 25 poll last week Utah Valley received a vote for the first time ever.

To an established Division I program, this wouldn’t be a big deal; but to a program trying to achieve notice, it’s great recognition.

"It means that we’re accomplishing some of our goals," coach Cathy Nixon said. "It’s a real compliment to the girls and the hard work they have put in over the years."

In the win over Seton Hall, the Wolverines trailed by 12 points at the half and it took them the entire second half to even things up. Led by the superior low-post play of Robyn Fairbanks, who led Utah Valley with 39 points, the home team was able to force overtime, and pulled away in the extra period for the 78-73 victory.

Utah Valley also scored 11 second-half points from guard Sandy Marvin.

"I felt like when we came out after halftime [and] we began to assert ourselves," Nixon said. "Our program is advancing in the direction we want it to, and I’m thrilled with the win."

The celebration for the big win was short lived, as the team had to prepare for a tough trip to Logan to take on Utah State.

However, paced by their two stars, the Wolverines took care of business, recording an 89-74 win. Marvin led all scorers with 21 points, while Fairbanks wasn’t far behind with 20. The win gave Utah Valley their first ever 6-0 start in school history.

The Wolverines will travel to Montana where they will take on Montana State on Dec. 5. The Bobcats have a record of 4-2 with games yet to be played before taking on Utah Valley. The Wolverines then take the short trip down University Parkway to take on BYU.
