Kansas City, Mo.—Looking to make a statement in its first tournament match, the Utah Valley University women’s soccer team made an example out of New Mexico State by dominating in both stats and goals with a final score of 2-0.

UVU came out swinging and not holding anything back by scoring in the 12th minute of the match. Libby Weber drew first blood as she scored her second goal of the season with an assist from Taylor Kirk.

Brooklyn Nielsen had her fourth shutout out of the season, in a match where she recorded no saves. NMSU used two goalkeepers for the match, and both had their work cut out for them as UVU recorded 21 shots and 10 shots on goal.

Things picked up again in the second half as Sheridan Fox missed high, but came right back and scored her first goal of the season in the 59th minute from about eight yards out.

Weber led the team with six shots for the match, followed by Fox with three. Sara Callister, Sydney Fitzpatrick and Breanna DeWaal all recorded two shots each, and Breanna McCarter, Melanie Ostler, Kalli Suesue, Alexis Peterson, Tori Smith and Rylee Gritton all with one shot each. NMSU was only able to record six shots during the match, with no shots on goal.

UVU looks to continue its dominance in the tournament by facing No. 1 seed Seattle University, a team that they failed to secure a win over during the regular season Friday. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. in Kansas City, Missouri.
