The lady Wolverines took on in-state rival Utah State last Tuesday for a doubleheader taking game one, but letting game two slide.

Game one started with Utah State stepping up to bat first and scoring a quick two runs as the Wolverines followed with one run in the first inning and sophomore Megan Woodworth hitting a home run to get the game going.

In the third inning, each team picked up one more run bringing the score to 3-2 for Utah State. By the end of the fifth inning, Utah State had scored two more runs while the Wolverines hadn’t picked up any more.

UVU came alive during the top of the sixth, scoring two runs — one of which was a home run hit by Junior Cherylyn McGraw, which brought them within one point of Utah State.

The Wolverines didn’t waste anytime during the final inning and quickly got the first three Utah State players up to bat out. Senior Megan Niemann then hit a nice ball to center field and brought in one run to tie the game at five.

UVU then finished off the game with senior Kylee Steadman hitting a drive past first base and bringing another player home to grab the 6-5 win.

In game two, Utah State came out strong getting off to a quick start with a home run, giving them a 1-0 lead in the first inning. By the end of the third, Utah State had brought home five more runs and tacked on one more run in the forth inning, which gave them the 7-0 win over UVU.

The Wolverines will be back in action at home on Wednesday April 8 facing BYU at MStar Field.
