Three of UVU’s top players shelled out double-digit points Tuesday to get a win over Weber State.

It wasn’t an easy win for the Wolverines but they did the job and put the points on the board that they needed. Sandy Wall, Robyn Fairbanks and Julie McMurray put together a total of 63 points for their 81-73 win.

“It was one we definitely had to earn,” said coach Cathy Nixon. “I was proud that we stepped up to the challenge and found a way to get it done when they were hitting shots and really making us work for it.”

The Wolverines came out strong and ready to defend their court, but Weber State also came out strong right off the bat. The Wolverines were determined to take the win.

Wall was on fire Tuesday night and certainly showed Weber State what she had by keeping her energy up for her total game time of 35 minutes. Wall hit 3-for-3 from the arc as well as making all sorts of cuts to the inside to put the ball in the basket and finish the game with a season high of 26 points.

“Sandy really helps to create energy and to give us an identity on the defensive end,” Nixon said and couldn’t have been more pleased with Wall’s performance also saying, “I think she’s playing great and Sandy’s really our catalyst on the defensive end.”

Asumi Nakayama also was a huge help with nine big assists helping her teammates put the points on the board.

Nakayama continues to excel as a player and Nixon couldn’t be more happy and concluded, “I look at what she’s been able to accomplish in the two years that she’s been here and its just incredible.”
