On Aug. 28 and 29, the UVU volleyball team traveled north to begin their season at the Weber State Invitational and came away with the title, conquering Gonzaga, Weber State and Utah State.

The Wolverines first met Gonzaga on Aug. 28 and won all four sets. Camie Manwill, a senior from Paradise, California and Kayli Broadbent, a junior from Gilbert, Arizona worked hard and came away with double-digit kills and digs in the four sets.

Allyce Jones, a senior from Pleasant Grove added 23 digs and Kathleen Stevens a junior from Lafayette, California, had 10 helping UVU to their victory over Gonzaga.

Next, UVU met Weber State on Aug. 29 where they swept the match. Broadbent, who was later named the tournament MVP, recorded a second best in school history hitting .720 for the Wolverines.

UVU finished off the tournament on Saturday. In the first set the Wolverines seemed to struggle a bit and lost 25-18 but came back strong to win the next three sets.

Three Wolverines all recorded double-doubles in the match against the Aggies. Broadbent, Manwill and Chelsea Fa’alogo, a sophomore from West Jordan were also named the all-tournament team with their high numbers of kills, digs and assists.
