Soccer falls short at home against Wyoming

Reading Time: 2 minutes

The Wolverines improved their shots on goal Friday night as they played under their home lights, but fell to a 2 -1 loss after the Wyoming Cowgirls blocked all eight of UVU’s shots on goal, and scored two goals in the second half.

The Wolverines consistently executed plays to increase their shots on goal and forward Natalie Young led the team with two.

“The team played fairly well tonight,” UVU head coach Brent Anderson said after the game. “I think defensively we did a good job, we were fairly organized.”

“We increased our shots on goal and our shots overall,” Anderson said. “But I don’t know if we really challenged Wyoming enough.”

Despite the execution, UVU could not bring the ball in the right position to score.

“I think seven of the eight on goal were from 25, 30 yards out,” said Anderson. “So we really weren’t getting into the box. We weren’t getting our good angles close enough to score.”

At the 66-minute mark, Wyoming’s Kasey Curtis shot the first goal of the night after the ball had bounced off another player following a drop kick by Lauren Sack.

After giving up the first goal, the Wolverines tried to answer back bringing more players forward in position to drive a goal.

“We pushed a few more players up forward,” Anderson said. “Then we got caught out of position in the back because we had so many players forward.”

Following an assist from her teammate, Wyoming’s Kayla Davis was left open to score the second and final goal leading to UVU’s shut out putting their record at 1-2-0.

UVU will play again Sunday morning at 10 a.m. Admission to the game will be free.
