Show you’ve got it and join an intramural team

Drink your protein shakes, hit the gym and find your favorite “pump-up mix.” Intramurals are back.

The intramural office has a list of a dozen different events and sports they have to offer – and that’s just for this month.

From flag football, soccer and softball leagues beginning to one-day events like a golf tournament, tennis tournament and the midnight 5k, students will be able to participate at differing competitive levels and available time commitments.

All three of the leagues starting this month are considered by the intramural office as three of the most popular events. Flag football, soccer and softball are all team sports that consist of about five weeks of regular season games followed by playoff games. Hurry though; the deadline for team packets to be turned in for these three events is Sept. 8

For those students who perform better when competing solo, intramurals offer some great opportunities to stand alone in the spotlight.

One of the most unique events is the midnight 5k race. Students will have the exciting chance to compete in a 5k beginning at 11:30 p.m. on Sept. 10, running under the stars on the UVU course.

Another fun opportunity is the golf tournament at the end of the month played at The Reserve at East Bay golf course. The intramural office puts the whole thing together and all you have to do is bring your clubs and entry fee.

“It’s fun to see how my game compares to other golfers on campus,” said Jordan Lewis, a UVU senior. “Tournaments keep me honest on my score; they don’t allow the three mulligans I usually take.”

Team events, as well as individual events, always have winners and prizes or awards that correspond with the event.

This year the intramural office is also going “paperless” and all packets and waivers can be found and submitted online.

A list of all events can be picked up at the intramural office in the student center across from the bookstore or online at www.UVU.edu/intramurals/events
