Real Salt Lake has been struggling as of late, to say the least. However, things may be making a turn for the better.

On June 13 RSL beat the Los Angeles Galaxy 2-0. This not only marks RSL’s first victory in eight matches, which they dominated in a 6-0 conquest over the New England Revolution, it is also their first and only win on the road this season.

Real Salt Lake received goals from Yura Movsisyan and Nat Borchers. Coach Jason Kreis used a 4-3-3 formation for the second straight match, which seemed to be an excellent decision.

RSL started the match aggressively and had two opportunities within the first 10 minutes. However it was not until the thirteenth minute that RSL would draw first blood putting them up 1-0 on a goal by Movsisyan.

This goal could not come at a better time for Movsisyan, who had been lacking confidence this season.

“I said during all the disappointment that it was just going to take just one special play for him. And then I think he would break out of it,” Coach Kreis said. “That special play happened, and I thought he was absolutely fantastic. I’m looking forward to what he’s like over the next couple of weeks.”

Borchers would have to wait until the 51st minute for his time to shine. Following a corner kick by RSL the ball was deflected off of Galaxy Midfielder Eddie Lewis and Borchers took advantage grounding the ball just inside the far post.

This gave RSL a 2-0 lead and that would prove to be plenty, as they would win by that same score.

Real Salt Lake will be back at Rio Tinto Stadium on Saturday June 27 when they face Toronto FC and also July 3 as they go up against the San Jose Earthquakes.
