Lady Wolverines get two wins at LMU Invitational

UVU Softball traveled to Los Angeles, Calif. March 18-20 to compete in the LMU Invitational and brought in two wins, but faltered in four losses during the three days.

The lady Wolverines competed against Bucknell, North Dakota and Loyola Marymount twice each in the three days winning both competitions against Bucknell, but falling to North Dakota and Loyola Marymount.

Competition began with games against Bucknell and North Dakota on March 18.  UVU started off with a 7-6 win against Bucknell after bringing in two runs in the bottom of the eighth, breaking the Wolverines eight game loosing streak.

In the second game of the day the Wolverines took a 7-3 loss to North Dakota after the Fighting Sioux brought in four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning securing them the win.

In the second day of invitational play, UVU started off facing North Dakota with a chance to redeem its previous day against the Fighting Sioux, but fell short in another 6-2 loss. North Dakota pulled in two runs in the top of the first inning to give themselves a quick lead and ultimately the win.

The Wolverines finished the second day in a 7-0 shutout against Loyola Marymount. The Lions scored four runs in the second, one in the third and two in the fifth.  Utah Valley was only able to get two hits the entire game.

On the final day at the LMU Invitational UVU began the day with another win over Bucknell, 7-6, but fell short in the final game against Loyola Marymount 4-2.

The Wolverines will open home play March 30 in back-to-back games against in-state rival Utah State at 2:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.
