Jamie North named GWC Player of the Week

NAPERVILLE, Ill. — Utah Valley’s Jamie North was named the Great West Conference Softball Player of the Week after putting together a stellar performance in the batter’s box in last week’s home opening series’ for UVU. The honors, which were announced Tuesday by the league office, also named North Dakota’s Michelle Frank as Pitcher of the Week.

 

North, a freshman from Placentia, Calif., led the Wolverines offensively last week, as she hit .500 with three doubles, one home run, two RBI and a run scored. North also slugged .833 and put up a .550 on base percentage. In the Wolverines’ home opener against UMKC, North went 3-for-4 with a double, a homer and two RBI. She had a multiple-hit game in three of UVU’s six contests last week. For the year the catcher/designated player is batting second on the team at .328 with three home runs and six RBI.

 

The pitching honor went to Frank after she struck out 13 batters in an 8-2 victory over Jamestown College. The junior from Chaska, Minn., entered in relief and was dominant in 6.1 innings of work to pick up her fourth win of the season. The righthander allowed only three singles, zero walks and no runs.

 

UVU softball will be in action on Wednesday when it hosts No. 15 Hawaii at 5 p.m. at Wolverine Field.
