Campbell and Stevens named GWC players of the week

NAPERVILLE, Ill. — Brookelyn Campbell and Kathleen Stevens have been selected Great West Conference Volleyball Players of the Week after leading the Wolverines to the Championship of the ASU Sheraton Invitational last weekend. The awards were announced Tuesday by the league office.

Campbell, a true freshman from Gilbert, Ariz., was named the tournament’s MVP after helping lead UVU to wins over UC Riverside (3-0), High Point (3-1) and host Arizona State (3-2). In the three victories, the setter posted 85 assists and a double double of 35 assists and 10 digs versus High Point. Earlier in the week she recorded 35 assists in a loss to Boise State, giving her 120 assists on the week for an 8.0 assists/set average. In addition, Campbell also posted a team-high nine service aces on the week.

Stevens, a senior from Lafayette, Calif., captured the defensive honors after securing the back row for the Wolverines with 68 digs and 4.53 digs/set in four matches last week. In the victory over ASU, the libero’s stellar defense helped the team defeat the Sun Devils for the first time in program history by posting 31 digs.
