LDS Leaders have stressed the importance of students attending Institute.

This is a translation of Aqui y Ahora, a weekly article printed in Spanish. This is from the Sep 6 issue of the UVU Review.

The Orem Institute of Religion, located near the Sorenson Student Center, has initiated a new campaign to promote classes to new students.

“President Monson has been motivating students to make institute a priority and take religion classes wherever they are attending college. The students are motivated to make it a priority and reach out to friends,” said Rob Elzey, area director of seminaries and institutes.

The Latter Day Saint Student Association promotes registration for religion classes by giving away T-shirts with the logo “Be anxiously engaged.” According to one institute student, the logo means, to be anxiously focused.

“After the devotional in January (by Elder L. Tom Perry) where he talked about increasing the attendance this year, the students started promoting right away with posters, banners and T-shirts,” Elzey said.

Students can pick up a free T-shirt at the front office of the institute building and are encouraged to wear it every Tuesday as a weekly reminder to other students.

According to Elzey, there are around 6,000 students registered for institute at the Orem location. There are around 14,000 registered around Utah Valley, including locations in Lehi and Spanish Fork.

“Go to institute,” says Steven Anderson, an institute student. “It’s a fun way to learn something different where everyone is happy.”
