“The Season of Giving not Gaining,” is just one of the many free programs that Student Health Services offers to students and faculty. Students gathered in the Hall of Flags on Nov. 17-18 for the event to participate and to get further information.

This event was geared toward holiday season weight maintenance. Participants are required to do service, weekly health challenges and to be within two pounds of their beginning weight at the end of the program to be eligible for prizes. Some of the prizes include Visa gift cards, movie passes, iTunes gift cards, UVU Bookstore gift cards and UVU Outdoor Education gift cards.

Student Health Services is committed to helping the students and faculty to be healthy in five areas of health: physical, academic, emotional, social and spiritual. They frequently hold fairs, workshops and programs each month to help educate students in each of these areas.

The department has been very busy with its wellness programs this year already. Many students just barely finished the Walktober program in October, which helped them to be more active and stay fit.

This month, Student Health Services has held a body image fairs blood pressure testing, health risk appraisal testing and the holiday weight maintenance challenge. Weekly wellness workshops are always going on at Student Health Services.

They are free workshops that have a different focus each week, such as stress management, weight management and nutrition. They will even be doing glucose testing Nov. 29-30 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Hall of Flags.

“Health services is a fantastic resource for students at UVU,” said Samantha Wise, wellness intern for Student Health Services. “We do programs like this all the time, and students really have a lot of opportunities to be healthy and get cool prizes while doing it.”
