Women’s soccer: UVU’s season comes to abrupt end

Kansas City, Mo.—With high expectations to start the season, the Utah Valley University women’s soccer team’s hopes of repeating last season’s magic ended Friday at the hands of No. 1 seed Seattle University.
It didn’t take long for SU to start things out as it scored its first goal of the afternoon in the 12th minute. As if that wasn’t enough of a statement, SU came back again in the 15th minute and scored yet another goal, when Brooklyn Nielsen fell and the ball was tapped in the back of the net.
After a demoralizing first half, UVU was able to get one goal in of its own, as Sara Callister scored her second goal of the season with an assist from Sheridan Fox at the 73-minute mark.
UVU led in stats for the match recording 11 shots and five on goal, to SU’s seven shots and five on goal.
Goalkeeping duties were split for the match with Nielsen protecting the box in the first half and Sarah Davis during the second half. Nielsen was able to secure one save to Davis’s two. SU’s goalkeeper Mackenzie Curry recorded four saves during the match.
With today’s loss UVU was handed and early ticket back to Orem, Utah, ending its hopes of being crowned back-to-back Western Athletic Conference champions.
