OREM, Utah – In a hard fought match, the Utah Valley University women’s soccer team tried to keep its 14-match home unbeaten streak alive, but came up short against CSU Bakersfield Friday night.

In its WAC opener at Clyde Field, UVU came out trying to put CSUB away early on in the match. By the end of the first half, UVU led the game with 11 shots to CSBU’s 5. However, this proved to not be enough, as CSUB came away with the game by the final score of 1-0.
With the loss, UVU falls to 6-5-1 on the season and 0-1-0 in conference play, while CSUB improves to 5-7-1 on the season and 1-0-0 in WAC play.

“We will dissect this certainly, but we need to learn from just a few little things and move forward,” said head coach Brent Anderson. “I thought we created some opportunities, but we didn’t take them, that was one of our points for the game, to complete the play but we failed to do that tonight.”

After half time, UVU was unable to capitalize on several opportunities to take the lead, but on the 47th minute of the match, CSUB’s Jordin Bartel found the net to take the lead.

“We worked hard, but I’m a little disappointed that we lost on our home field,” said UVU defender Kalli Suesue. “Towards the end we kept pounding it in, so I’m proud of the attacker.”

UVU ended the night with 24 shots and 8 shots on goal, CSUB had 9 shots and 4 shots on goal. With 8 saves on the night, CSUB’s Jen Padilla saved the night for the Roadrunners.

“It’s always frustrating when you don’t get a goal, but it was nice that we were taking that many shots on goal,” said Suesue.

UVU will play against Grand Canyon in Phoenix, Arizona Sunday to continue WAC play. The match is set to kick off at 1 p.m. MT.
