Omaha, Neb – The Creighton Bluejays scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning and held on to defeat the Utah Valley Wolverines in the first game of a Saturday afternoon doubleheader 4-3.

Utah Valley took a 3-2 lead in the top of the seventh as they had some breaks go their way.  Two walks, a wild pitch, a passed ball, a two-out error, and an RBI single by Zac Fuller helped the Wolverines take the lead.  Fuller’s single was the only hit of the inning.

Creighton responded with two runs in the bottom half of the seventh inning as they got a pair of RBI doubles from Reagan Fowler and Ryan Fitzgerald.  Fitzgerald, who doubled to right center field, drove in what turned out to be the winning run.

Freshman Jackson Cofer pitched six strong innings for the Wolverines, allowing one earned run (two total) on only three hits.  He did give up six walks but was able to pitch around them and keep UVU in the ball game.  He got a no decision as UVU relief pitcher Logan Hold came on in the seventh and gave up the two runs.  Hold took the loss for the Wolverines on the mound.

Nick Highberger was the winning pitcher for the Bluejays and David Gerber pitched the final two innings to get the save for Creighton.
