Wolverine women drop final game of road trip to Cal State Bakersfield
Reading Time: < 1 minuteBakersfield – The fourth quarter woes of the Utah Valley University women’s basketball team returned Saturday as the Wolverines lost the second half of their two-game road swing, 61-54 to California State University Bakersfield, snapping a three-game win streak.
Through the first three quarters the game was tight, neither team being able to take a commanding lead. UVU and CSUB went into the fourth tied at 38. The Wolverines started the quarter well, but a 14-0 run over a UVU scoring drought that lasted over four minutes sealed the game for the Roadrunners.
Both teams shot well, the Wolverines at 45.5 percent and the Roadrunners at 43 percent. UVU won the rebound battle 32-27, but had a hard time taking care of the ball, turning it over 19 times as opposed to CSUB’s nine turnovers.
Batabe Zempare led the Roadrunners with a double-double, recording 16 points and 11 rebounds. Zempare also chipped in two assists and two steals. Joining her in double digit scoring was Erika Williams with 12 points.
Deijah Blanks led the scoring for the Wolverines with 11 points. Rebecca MaWhinney scored 10 points and grabbed eight rebounds in the losing effort.
The UVU women will return home February 4 to take on the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. Tip off is scheduled for 11 a.m. in the PE building at UVU campus.
