The Utah Valley University volleyball team dropped three straight sets in their road match against the Bengals of Idaho State University on Tuesday night (15-25, 18-25, 17-25).

“We need to continue to get better,” said head coach Sam Atoa in a statement given to wolverinegreen.com. “There are some keys of the game that we have not been able to execute as well as we feel that we’re capable of. But I along with the team for sure expect that to happen. We’ve got a lot of work ahead and I know that we can turn this around.”

The story of this match was that ISU was able to overpower UVU in every statistical category. The Wolverines were out scored 56 to 33 in total points, they had zero aces to ISU’s seven, five blocks to 11, 29 assists to 40, and 32 digs to 42.

Although UVU was handed their third sweep in four matches, senior Lauren Bakker and junior Macky Fifita each played well recording nine and eight kills, respectively. Junior Kiahna Steiner also chipped in with five kills for the Wolverines while recording a .356 hitting percentage.

Tressa Lyman led the way for ISU with 11 kills while Makenzie Filer recorded nine of her own in the Bengal’s home opener.

The Wolverines are now 1-3 on the year and will continue their 11-match road trip at the NDSU Baymont Inn & Suites Classic in Fargo, North Dakota this weekend. UVU will take on Milwaukee on Friday, Sept. 4 and the home team North Dakota State as well as Towson on Saturday, Sept. 5.
