In their second and final game of the Johann Memorial Classic in Las Vegas, the Utah Valley Wolverines shut out the Saint Joseph’s Hawks 3-0.

The Wolverines are now 4-0 on the season and Saint Joseph’s falls to 0-4. It was the third shutout on the season for the Wolverines and their fourth win away from Clyde Field.

“I could tell from the warm-up these were focused,” UVU coach Greg Maas said in a statement to wolverinegreen.com. “This is a very very focused group. We’ve had two good weekends on the road. To get four wins on the road has been fantastic for our program but I can tell you that we’re very excited to get back to Clyde Field in front of our 12th Wolverines.”

The Wolverines were in control the entire game, as Saint Joseph’s did not get a signal shot on goal. Nic Hardguindeguy started off the scoring in the 25th minute with his first goal of the season that gave the Wolverines an early lead. Then just ten minutes later they added another goal on a penalty kick by Aaron Meyer, his first goal of the season to make it 2-0. Paul Hoffmeister finished off the scoring in the 82nd minute from eight yards out to put the final tally at 3-0. It was Hoffmeister’s second goal of the season.

The Wolverines attempted 20 shots (10 on goal) compared to just three for the Hawks and zero on goal.  Derek Wilcox picked up the shutout in goal for UVU and it marks the third shutout of his career.

Next up for the Wolverines will be their home opener in the Holiday Inn Express Invitational at Clyde Field in Orem. Along with Utah Valley, the Invitational features UNLV, Mercer, and Bradley. UNLV will take on Mercer in the first game Friday afternoon, which will be followed by the UVU home opener against Bradley at 7 p.m. MT.
