Tucson, Ariz.—Coming off a decisive win against Northern Arizona Friday night, the Utah Valley University women’s soccer team suffered a heartbreaking loss against 20th-ranked Arizona Sunday night, their first loss of the season.

Arizona drew first blood early in the first half as they scored the first goal in the 19th minute after Abby Jameson received a yellow card.  Towards the end of the first half, Erica Stephan was fouled, which gave her the opportunity to put up another score, however the shot was blocked by Sarah Davis.

Davis had one more save during the first half, however, after halftime Arizona came out determined to put the game away by scoring four unanswered goals in the 46th, 47th, 52th, and 80th minutes, respectably.

In the 57th minute, Davis was substituted by Brooklyn Nielsen, in an effort to try and stop the onslaught that Arizona was bringing.

With only seconds left in the game, forward Alexis Peterson, scored her first goal of the season to bring the final score to 5-1.

Arizona also outshot UVU 19-9, with Breanna DeWaal leading the Wolverines with three shots and one on-goal.

The Wolverines move on to play their home opener against in-state rival Southern University on Friday Aug. 26. In their last meeting, SUU topped UVU by a score of 2-1 in Cedar City, Utah.
