In their final game of the CSUN Invitational, UVU couldn’t overcome three errors that led to three unearned runs in a loss to Gonzaga 6-4 on Sunday February 15, 2015.

Gonzaga would score first as they plated two runs in the first inning and then one more in the third to take a 3-0 lead.  The offense for UVU was silent until the fifth inning when junior Craig Brinkerhoff would draw a walk with one out and he was followed by a single from junior Jordan Schlehuber but they couldn’t score a run in the inning.  Gonzaga would add another run in the top of the sixth on an RBI single by Tyler Frost with two outs pushing their lead to 4-0.

UVU would finally push across a run in the bottom of the sixth as Cam Zollinger would score on a Seth Rhineer groundball.  Zollinger was able to reach third earlier in the inning due to a Bulldog error and eventually came home to put the Wolverines on the board.

Runs scored off of errors was the name of the game.  UVU was able to tie the game up in the seventh inning thanks to an error with two outs and the bases loaded.  A single by Rhineer, who drove in three of the four Wolverine runs on the day, would score two runs and UVU was right back in the game.

It was short lived as Gonzaga capitalized on a Wolverine miscue in the top of the eighth inning. A wild pitch allowed the go-ahead run to score and then Mitchell Gunsolus plated another run with a two-out RBI single to make the final tally 6-4.

Junior Kyle Valgardson out of Provo, Utah took the loss for the Wolverines on the mound as the two runs scored in the eighth inning were charged to him.

UVU has a tough task next week as they travel to Long Beach State who is coming off a trip to the NCAA Regionals in 2014 which included two wins over North Carolina.
