In a statement shared with family, friends and media after Utah Valley University men’s basketball team’s final game of the regular season, head coach Dick Hunsaker announced his plans to resign his current position in the offseason

“With family present, much like when I was introduced at UVSC 13 years ago, I am announcing that at the end of my current contract, I am stepping down as Head Men’s Basketball Coach at Utah Valley University; effective June 30, 2015,” he said in the statement.

He continued reading the statement by citing family as one reason for the decision at this timing in his life.

“My wife likes the timing, as this opens the window to allow us to pick up our youngest son Zachary from his LDS mission in Africa. Also, I am looking forward to getting to know my seven grandchildren.”

He also added the importance of the role that the school has had in his family’s life.

“Over the past 13 years, UVU has been part of our family with our daughter Jodi and son Holton having earned their degrees.”

In addition, Hunsaker extended thanks to some influential persons at the school.

“I want to thank Presidents Matthew Holland, Bill Sederberg, and Kerry Romesburg; athletic directors Mike Jacobson and Vince Otoupal for the opportunity.

“I would like to thank our boosters, fans, faculty, staff, and student body for their support of our program,” he said. “In addition, I thank my assistant coaches and their families for their tireless sacrifice and support.”

In addition to offering his thanks and citing reasons for his resignation, Hunsaker mentioned how great of an opportunity, as well as how influential, the job has been for him.
