Due to inclement weather in Albuquerque, NM, the Utah Valley University baseball team had a quick turnaround on Sunday March 1, 2015 as they had to finish off their wet weekend facing host New Mexico.

UVU was able to take an early lead thanks to a three rub triple by Kade Andrus in the top of the second inning.  The senior outfielder connected on a 1-2 pitch and drove it to deep right-center field scoring Jordan Schlehuber, Greyson Bogden, and Zac Fuller.

The Wolverines (2-8) were able to hold the lead until the fourth inning when the Lobos (7-2) scored three runs with two outs and nobody on base.  Dan Collier would tie the game with a two-run double and then in the sixth, Aaron Siple hit a two-out triple to score Dalton Bowers and put New Mexico in front for good.  They would plate two unearned runs in the seventh thanks to a Wolverine error and then add three more runs in the eighth inning to defeat UVU 9-3 in the finale of the Lobo Invite.

Jake Mayer took the loss for the Wolverines as he gave up the go-ahead run in his two innings of work on the mound.

Colton Thomson would get the win on the mound for New Mexico as he threw six sharp innings surrendering the three runs in the second while striking out eight and only allowing three hits.  The New Mexico pitching staff only allowed two hits the rest of the game after the second inning.

UVU will look to bounce back at their home opener on Friday March 6, 2015 as they host St. Mary’s at 5 p.m. MT in a four game series including a Saturday doubleheader.

The Wolverines will also host BYU on Tuesday March 10, 2015 at 6 p.m.
