Wednesday night at the UCCU center marked an exciting tug-of-war win for UVU men’s basketball, with the victory coming by a score of 62-59 against Weber State.

Both sides fought hard, tying the game multiple times in the second half. Luckily for Wolverines, sophomore Hayes Garrity made two free throws with six seconds left, not enough time on the clock for a 3-pointer attempt to tie it by the Wildcats’ Davion Berry.

“It was just a great effort of hussle, scrapping and clawing. Digging down – feeling the pain from the previous outings we’ve had,” coach Dick Hunsaker said after the team’s previous two away game losses at South Dakota and Tennessee Tech.

In the final moments of the game, a missed shot by Berry led the ball to roll out of possession. Senior Holton Hunsaker dove to the floor and swiftly called time out, leading UVU to take possession with a one-point lead and 7.9 seconds left.

“Luckily that Ref was right on top of it and as soon as I put my hands together he called it,” Holton Hunsaker said.

Holton Hunsaker, the top scorer with 13 points reflected in interviews on his performance, which included a shot that gave the Wolverines the lead, compared to this season overall.

“I’ve been struggling with my shot this season. It was really my teammates that I was open and I just shot the shot,” Holton Hunsaker said.

Thw Wolverines’ top scorer, Zach Nelson, followed close behind with 12 points. Notably Ben Aird also did well, tying second on UVU’s all-time NCAA scoring list with current Orlando Magic guard Ronnie Price.

With another win added, UVU will continue to prepare for WAC play with non-conference games throughout December.
