Man on the street – Student fees

Student fees—the expenses for each individual class after tuition—are a necessary evil that helps keep our school running and pay for course materials.
We wanted to see what our fellow Wolverines thought about these charges, and what they knew about what they were paying.
Lorraine Brimhall
Are your student fees too high, or do you think the cost is about right? I think its about right. I think its around $300.
Where do you think the money goes? Buildings, student areas, the new student center that was built, which I think is fantastic.
Would you rather pay your tuition and fees in one lump sum, or as two separate items? I have to pay the same amount when I pay my tuition anyway, right? I think it’s fine either way.

Are your student fees too high, or do you think the cost is about right? The fees are okay, but the tuition could be cheaper.
Where do you think the money goes? Some of it might go to lab fees and the equipment we get to use. Some of it might go to pay the teacher. I’m not sure where it all goes.
Would you rather pay your tuition and fees in one lump sum, or as two separate items? I think it would be nice to have it included in the tuition but then again, those times when you don’t have to take those classes that have all the extra fees, when you don’t have a lot of labs, your tuition would be cheaper.

Are your student fees too high, or do you think the cost is about right? It’s always too much. The first thing that comes to your head is the word “fees”. No one wants to pay fees. But education is an investment, so you get a return.
Where do you think the money goes? Professors, course materials, building fees, expansion of the university

Are your student fees too high, or do you think the cost is about right? Probably about right considering all the tuition costs for other schools is a lot higher than here.
Where do you think the money goes? I don’t know. Maintaining the facilities, paying for teacher’s salaries probably.

Are your student fees too high, or do you think the cost is about right? It just depends on the class. I feel like it’s dumb when something like a history class has fees, but when you’re in a lab like for science I can understand because it’s expensive to run.
Where do you think the money goes? Hopefully to the class. I don’t know.
Would you rather pay your tuition and fees in one lump sum, or as two separate items? It doesn’t really matter, I guess separate is nice because you know what you’re paying for.

Are your student fees too high, or do you think the cost is about right? I wouldn’t know. I don’t know how the administrative services work. It usually depends upon the services themselves as far as how efficient they run and how many hands touched the paperwork. That’s really what is the basis for how much you pay in fees.
Where do you think the money goes? I would hope towards administration and buildings.

The way it’s set up is really confusing right now, because they tell you what the tuition is and what the fees, but then when you go online it says, “here’s some more fees”, but then it shows a negative number because I didn’t have to pay certain fees, so I have no idea what I’m actually paying. You basically have to translate what they are trying to tell you, so I don’t think there’s an accurate way of knowing. It’s a terrible layout.
