New York Times best-selling author and former Utah Valley resident Orson Scott Card will be holding a two-day writing seminar called Uncle Orson’s Writing Seminar at UVU on June 28-29.

Card is well-known as the writer of the popular Ender’s Game series of books, but has also found fame with works as diverse as Biblical novels, poetry, video games, Iron Man comic books and his outspoken politics.

Card is also a distinguished professor at Southern Virginia University, where he has taught creative writing classes and has been a judge for the Writers of the Future speculative fiction contest.

Sponsored by UVU’s Community and Continuing Education Department, the seminar will allow students to have face-to-face education from a highly successful author.

Katrina Van Scott, manager of operations for the CCE department, said that “attendees will appreciate his open and engaging style, as well as learning from his experience in the writing industry. This seminar is also valuable for writers and playwrights.”

Intended for college-age and older students, either with or without much writing experience, the seminar costs $175. To register for the seminar, contact Diana Hunter of the Community and Continuing Education department at 801-863-8894.
