Wrestling: Jade Rauser is one win away from achieving goal
Reading Time: < 1 minuteNEW YORK — UVU senior Jade Rauser had had a goal of becoming an All-American since coming to UVU to wrestle. On Friday at Madison Square Garden, he faced an uphill task as he had to win three matches to accomplish that goal. Well he has won two the necessary three matches and will go for the third win on Friday night in session IV of the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships.
In his first match, Rauser dominated Nathan Kraisser of Campbell beating him 17-4. Rauser followed that match up with a 5-3 decision over No. 9 Mack McGuire of Kent St. to put himself in a position to wrestle for All-American status.
“Jade has never wrestled better than he has the second half of this season,” UVU head coach Greg Williams said. “He is performing his very best when it counts here this weekend. We are excited for him to have this opportunity tonight to go for his long-time goal of becoming an NCAA All-American.”
Rauser will face No. 6 George DiCamillo of Virginia at 8 p.m. ET/6 p.m. MT. DiCamillo made it to the quarterfinals of the championship bracket before losing to No. 3 Zane Richards of Illinois.
