Since 1995, Utah Regional Ballet has been the performing company in residence at UVSC.

Established in 1980 by artistic director Jacqueline Colledge, URB enriches more than 7,000 school children throughout the year with its outreach programs, which provide lectures and performances.

The company performs four, full-season concerts and tours internationally.

Throughout the years, company dancers have received various recognition awards.

Dancers from URB have also received scholarships for summer study at various companies, including San Francisco Ballet, Boston Ballet, Juilliard and the School of American Ballet.

Some have gone to professional careers with Ballet West, Nevada Ballet Theater and Pacific Northwest Ballet.

The ballet company recently performed the full-length ballet, La Coquette. Set in the French countryside in the late 19th century, the light-hearted ballet follows the story of a mother’s pursuit to find suitors for three of her daughters.

The ballet was presented Nov. 17-19 in the Ragan Theater.
Among reparatory works by the company are Cinderella, Coppelia, George Balanchine’s Serenade and Alan Hineline’s Sans Souci.

A number of well-known teachers and choreographers have worked with the ballet, including Yi Qi Cheng, William Christensen and Violette Verdy.

The company will bring Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker in mid-December.

Tickets for this must-see holiday performance can be reserved by calling the De Jong Concert Hall at (801) 796-3380 or (801) 221-7772.
