Utah County construction update Jan. 13-19

Reading Time: 2 minutes

With the inevitability of snow this winter, UDOT is proactively making its annual warnings about driving during bad weather. Be sure leave time for weather delays in your travel plans, make sure to keep plenty of distance between vehicles and keep speeds down.

Also, make sure to keep up to date on construction. Below are hot spots for this week:

  • University Parkway ramp closures
  • Sandhill Road reopening
  • Geneva Road closure
  • Orem 400 North and 1600 North closures
  • Provo 820 North closure
  • U.S. 6 / Spanish Fork closure

Lanes will be shifted on both southbound I-15 ramps at University Parkway. The southbound off-ramp will be closed as early as Jan. 21 from 10:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. and the on-ramp will be closed as early as Jan. 27, also from 10:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m.

After days of rerouting auto and pedestrian access, crews have completed the necessary work on Sandhill Road at University Parkway. All lanes are running, although drivers should be aware that work on the pedestrian underpass is still underway, shifting University Parkway traffic to the north side of the road.

Pilings will be driven for the support columns of the I-15 overpass on Geneva Road, scheduled for Jan. 17-25. Geneva Road will be closed nightly during the construction, from 9:00 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. Alternate routes include Lindon 200 South and Orem 1600 North.

Sound wall installation at the northbound off-ramp of 1600 North in Orem will cause nightly closures from 9:00 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. The work on 1600 North should continue from Jan. 17-19. Demolition of the old interchange bridge at 400 South in Orem will continue to cause permanent closure under I-15 until 5:30 a.m. Jan. 16.

Bridge demolition at 820 North in Provo will cause full closure from 11:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 20 until 5:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 23. After the full closure, the road will be opened during the day only, with nightly closures continuing Jan. 23-26. Light, noise and vibration will accompany the construction, and there will be no pedestrian access near the demolition to ensure safety.

Pavement work will close the southbound I-15 off-ramp to U.S. 6 and Spanish Fork Main Street Jan. 18 from 9:00 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. Drivers can use S.R. 77 as an alternate route. Drivers should also be aware of restriping on U.S. 6 between I-15 and Chappel Drive as early as Jan. 17 at 9:00 p.m.
