The Investigation of Nathan Corvan Episode Two: The After Party

Reading Time: 2 minutes

“Geez, I thought it would be an office building or something, not a mansion.” The detective ran his slender fingers through his dark messy hair. “Officer Jones didn’t give me much info to go on… just that there was a crime scene; He did bring up the Bowling Alley Sabotage case so it seems more than likely someone is dead.” He removed his key from the ignition and stepped out, closing the door behind him. A pair of officers stood waiting for him near the front door.

“Where is it?” He asked.

“You are Detective Nathan Corvan?” one of the officers asked.

“Yes. Now where is it?”“The crime scene is upstairs on the third.”

“Not that. My breakfast, surely Officer Jones didn’t forget my breakfast.”

“I’m sorry?” The officer eyed the detective in pure confusion.

“He woke me up and promised me breakfast if I took the case. That was the deal.”

“It’s right in here sir.” The other officer sneered opening the door behind her. She gestured to a bag on the small table just inside the mansion.

“Why wasn’t I told about this?” The first officer scoffed. “Because Lewis, obviously I’m the more important officer in this partnership.” She grinned. “Yeah, Vassah.

That’s what it is.” Lewis rolled his eyes. Officer Vassah eyed him grimly. “If the two of you were the only officers available it’s no wonder Officer Jones called me.”

The detective picked up the sack and started up the stairs leaving the two officers below alone with offended looks on their faces.

The mansion was large, but getting from floor to floor was fairly straightforward. The detective was a few bites into his sandwich when he reached the third floor. Looking around the hallway it wasn’t hard to find the room in question with the door frame cut across with tape just down the hall from a large dumbwaiter.

Officer Jones emerged from the room as the detective approached. “Ah Detective. Excellent time. We just finished getting the area secure and started doing a preliminary analysis of the crime scene. Come on in.” He lifted the tape and allowed Nathan through.
