‘Glimpse’ into another world

Reading Time: 2 minutes

The Synergy Dance Team takes on a variety of topics and expresses them through movement.

Music gives listeners an opportunity to escape into the unknown for a while. This same escape can be offered through dance, only dance guides the mind into a specific area through the interpretation of the choreography.

UVU’s Synergy Dance Team is offering a way into these unique states of mind through their upcoming performance “Glimpse.”

“Glimpse” will feature a variety of topics about the importance of specific issues with the understanding of the human body and experience.

“Each piece of choreography explores a rich cohesion of physicality, intellect, and emotion,” said Monica Campbell, instructor for Synergy Dance Company.

From the 1956 Anti-Soviet uprising in Budapest to corporate America, students, faculty and guest artist I-Fen Lin explore these issues and will express them through modern dance, according to Campbell.

Students as well as the artists have something unique to share with the world, something only they can offer.

“The theme is really about being comfortable and confident with the gifts you’ve been given . . . as a person and artist,” Campbell said.

The past and present are filled with many important issues, yet there are some who are unaware of them. “Glimpse” hopes to entertain as well as open the eyes of the community to those things that have happened and create an awareness of them, according to Campbell.

Synergy Dance Company will only be performing in the fall this year due to time scheduling. This performance is the only chance to see students and faculty express themselves through their own choreographed dances this year.

“UVU has such a fantastic outlet for the arts. There is such a high level of talent here. As a school, you should come to enjoy and support it,” Campbell said.

Synergy Dance Company will perform Nov. 10, 11 and 12 at 7:30 p.m. in the Ragan Theatre. Tickets are $9 for students, faculty and staff, and $12 for the general public.

“’Glimpse’ really is just a little something for everyone,” Campbell said.
