We can’t avoid them – stories are the basis for everything from movies to job applications. And Orem is home to the nation’s second largest storytelling event, the Timpanogos Storytelling Festival.

Ponyo: Hand-drawn animation is as lovable as ever

As the years progress, more and more studios are developing CGI-animated films and the tendrils of this technology are far reaching from animation into a variety of genres, from sci fi to action films. Studio Ghibli, however, based in Japan under the guidance of Hayao Miyazaki, still revels in its hand-drawn animated films. Miyazaki, former Oscar winner for Best Animation for Spirited Away, continues to dazzle and impress with his latest offering, Ponyo.

International Cinema provides Intentional Fun

Reading Time: < 1 minute This semester, the Cinema Studies program is excited to be partnering up with the International Center to bring UVU students some of the best foreign films around. The series will begin on Sept. 10 with the classic Okamoto film “The Sword of Doom,” a tale about a sociopathic samurai and his descent into madness. Other essential films will be on tap for the semester, such as Ingmar Bergman’s “The Seventh Seal,” as well as more contemporary pieces, like Danny Boyle’s “Slumdog Millionaire,” winner of this year’s Academy Award for Best Picture.
