NORMAN, Okla.—The Utah Valley University women’s soccer team completed an undefeated weekend with a 1-0 win over the Oklahoma Sooners Sunday. The Wolverines put a relentless attack on the Sooners’ goal with 6 of 11 shots put on target.

UVU (3-1-0) broke through early and took the first shot of the match in the 9th minute, but Sidney Fitzpatrick’s attempt sailed wide of the goal. Just seven minutes later, Taylor Kirk broke through for the Wolverines and put the ball in the back of the net in the 16th minute with an assist from Sarah Callister.

UVU and OU (2-1-1) amped up the physicality in the second half. After having been whistled for just two fouls in the first half, UVU tallied 14 fouls in the second half and a pair of cautions to Abby Jameson and Hannah Bruce.

The Sooners owned the offensive end in the final 45 minutes with eight shots, two on target, but the Wolverines never broke on the defensive end. UVU withstood the barrage of OU attacks as the Sooners fired four shots in the final 10 minutes. The final attempt UVU allowed in the match came on a header by Tori Bowman, but the shot flew over the crossbar and the Sooners remained scoreless.

The Wolverines improved to 1-1-0 against power 5 opponents this season, with the first contest coming in a 5-1 loss to No. 25 Arizona. UVU returns home to host the UNLV Rebels Sept. 2 at 7:30 p.m. MT at Clyde Field.
