OREM, UT – Only one minute and 30 seconds into the match, Breanna DeWaal started what turned out to be a trend for the entire game in an onslaught of goals for the Utah Valley University women’s soccer team.

“That’s the team we’ve been looking for, and the way we wanted to play this entire season,” said UVU head coach Brent Anderson. “They were more patient in the attacking third tonight than they have been this season. To get that many goals and to play as well as we did, it was a great reward for the team and for the work they’ve been putting in.”

With this decisive win, UVU improves to 9-6-2 on the season, and 3-2-1 in Western Athletic Conference play, UMKC drops to 5-9-4 and 2-2-2.

The team and fans came alive early with DeWaal’s first goal. She then came back for her second one of the night at the 19-minute mark, bringing the score to 2-0.

Not wanting to be left out of the spotlight, Libby Weber scored her first goal of the season in tremendous fashion, from 25 yards out.

“It was fun, we finally played the way that we know we are capable of, and it resulted in a six-two win,” said Weber. “We want to play like this against Seattle next week, we want this momentum to go forward and play like we did tonight.”

Looking to avoid a shutout, UMKC came into the second half determined to score, doing so in the 63-minute mark.

Just when it seemed things couldn’t get more interesting, UMKC scored an own goal when Niekie Pellens attempted to clear out the ball, but kicked it in to her own net and brought the score to a commanding 5-1. Pellens redeemed herself moments later by scoring goal number two for UMKC.

Lexi Felis decided to join in the scoring fun as she recorded her first goal of the season from 30 yards out by finding the right upper 90.

With five minutes left to play, Taylor Kirk added one last goal for UVU by closing out the game in dominant fashion with a final score of 6-2.

UVU moves on to face conference leader Seattle University Friday night, looking to continue its newly found win streak. The match is set to kick off at 7 p.m. MT in Clyde Field.
