OREM, Utah – The Utah Valley University women’s soccer team looked to their home opener to bounce back after last week’s loss against Arizona. In convincing fashion, UVU handed in-state rival Southern Utah their second loss of the season, outscoring them 2-0 in front of a home crowd of 1,990 fans.

In the 24th minute, Abby Jameson was assisted by Kalli Suesue and fired a shot from about 25 yards, arching over SUU’s goalkeeper’s arm for the first goal of the game, also marking Jameson’s first career goal.

“It was a really good pass, really good angle towards the goal, I just took a shot,” said Jameson. “That was my first college career goal, so I’m super excited.”

Alexis Peterson helped seal the game with a second goal in the 90th minute. Courtney Stromberg and Breanna DeWaal came through with the assist on the goal. Peterson has now scored three goals in each of the three games this season.

“Defensively, I thought we were steller tonight,” UVU head coach Brent Anderson said. “We didn’t allow to many shots on goal, our goalkeepers played well. In general, I think the backline did a really good job.”

UVU improves to 2-1-0 on the season, and tonight’s win also extends their home win streak to 11 matches.

The Wolverines will face off against Oklahoma on Sunday, a team that had a record of 10-7-3 last season. The game will kick off at 11 a.m. MT.
