Wolverines stay afloat on the road

The women’s basketball team returned home last week after a four-game road trip. On the road they picked up two wins and suffered two losses.

Their road trip began in New Jersey against NJIT on Feb. 12 when they picked up a big 70-58 win. This win continued their winning streak bringing it to six straight games.

UVU’s Canadian duo once again dished out big numbers. Senior Robyn Fairbanks scored 30 points and pulled down 13 rebounds. Junior Julie McMurray put up 22 points and brought down six rebounds. Junior Asumi Nakayama continued her consistency with six assists.

Two days later, on Feb. 14, the Wolverines were in the ‘Windy City’ to take on Chicago State. On this stop the Wolverines continued their winning streak extending it to seven with a 79-66 win.

The Wolverine’s seven game winning streak ended three days later on February 17 in Ohio with a 83-74 loss. Fairbanks and senior Sandy Wall carried the team with big numbers against Ohio University, but the effort was not enough to continue the winning streak.

Wall ended up with 23 points, while Fairbanks delivered 32 points.

North Dakota State became UVU’s last stop before returning home from their four-game road trip. Despite their 90-75 loss against North Dakota State, big numbers were put up, as well as career highs and more milestones made.

Fairbanks became UVU’s first player to amass 1,000 rebounds. She also contributed 24 points in the effort. Wall contributed 24 points and Nakayama scored a career-high 16 points, which included four 3-pointers.

The Wolverine women will finish off their season on their home court in the Division I Independent Tournament beginning March 5, which will continue to run until March 7.
