Track picked to win GWC

NAPERVILLE, Ill. – As the teams prepare for the 2012 Great West Conference Track and Field Championships held next month, the coaches have unanimously selected UVU to retain the men’s and women’s conference titles that the Wolverines have claimed the past three years.

 

UVU received all eight of the first-place votes on both the men’s and women’s ballots, giving each 64 points to lead the polls.

 

On the men’s side, Houston Baptist was named as the runner-up on all eight ballots, giving the Huskies 56 points. North Dakota received 42 points for third place, while Texas-Pan American was fourth with 35 points. Chicago State claimed 29 points for fifth place, followed closely by Seattle U with 28 points. GWC newcomer CSU-Bakersfield received 24 points for seventh place, and NJIT rounded out the poll with 10 points.

 

Following UVU on the women’s ballot were North Dakota at second with 52 points, just ahead of Houston Baptist with 50 points. Seattle U and Texas-Pan American tied for fourth with 34 points apiece, while CSU-Bakersfield garnered 29 points. Chicago State and NJIT finished out the poll with 15 and 10 points, respectively.

 

The 2012 GWC Track and Field Championships will be held May 10-12 at Humble, Texas, and will be hosted by Houston Baptist.
