UVU cross country fares well in season opener

Utah Valley’s men’s and women’s cross country teams finished second and third respectively as they began the 2008 season at the Idaho State Invitational Saturday morning.

“It was a pretty good day for us overall,” head cross-country coach Scott Houle said. “Our men’s team ran a really great race today, and overall they really impressed me. They showed me just how good they will be this season. Our women’s team got out to a little bit of a slow start, and it was hard for them to play catch up in the shorter 3K race.”

With the second place finish the men totaled 41 points and were led from a fourth place finish from Joshua McCabe, a freshman from Springville, Utah. Other top ten finishers for the men were Jared Keller (7th), a redshirt sophomore from Orem, Utah, and Danny Moody (9th), a redshirt senior from Provo, Utah.

The Wolverine women finished in third place with a team total of 68 points and were led by Aleina Eisenhauer, a sophomore from Glendale, Ariz., who finished in 13th place individually. Krystal Harper, a freshman from Orem, finished right behind her Eisenhauer in 14th place.

Overall, Southern Utah’s teams won in both the men’s and women’s competitions. The men’s team walked away with the first place finish with a score of 25, while the host school Idaho State finished in third with 86 points. SUU’s women finished in with a score of 30, and Idaho State placed second with 38 points.
