The Orem Owlz finished off the three-game series Monday night against Idaho Falls Chuckars with a dominating 20-6 victory following a rollercoaster weekend.
After a tough 1-4 loss on Saturday, the Owlz came back Sunday with a leading 13-9 win, which continued into tonight’s game against the Chuckars.
Joel Capote came out strong in the first inning by singling out a line drive to center field which led him to steal second base while Sherman Johnson was up to bat. As Johnson grounds out, Capote advances to third which eventually brought him home from Michael Bolaski’s sacrifice fly scoring two runs for the Owlz.
It wasn’t until Andrew Ray led the Owlz with the first home run of the night bringing Wendell Soto home, which started Orem off with a dominating lead with eight runs at the bottom of the second inning.
A two-run comeback in the third inning for the Chuckars wasn’t enough to catch up to the Owlz as they continued to become untouchable throughout the rest of the game.
With a pitcher change from Idaho Falls, the Owlz continued a matchless inning with seven runs to finish the bottom of the sixth. The inning started off with a double fly ball from Wade Hinkle bringing Soto, Ray and Johnson home. The Owlz sustained more runs with a triple fly ball to right field from Bolaski advancing Hinkle and Caleb Bushyhead home.
In the eighth inning, Nicholas Cuckovich of the Chuckars doubled on a fly ball to center fielder Joel Capote. With Cuckovich still on second, teammate Jared Schlehuber hit a line drive homerun advancing Cuckovich giving the Chuckars two more runs.
With only two runs scored in the ninth inning from the Chuckars they failed to take the lead over the Owlz as Orem defeats Idaho Falls at the end of the night with a 20-6 victory.
The Owlz get ready to take on the Billings Mustangs and the Missoula Ospreys at their home fields next week and will soon return home to Brent Brown Ball Park July 19 to compete against the Mustangs once again.
