Students donate to save classmates

Due to state budgetary cuts, more than 230 UVU student financial scholarships will be sacrificed. In response, the UVU Student Alumni Board (SAB) is asking for every student on campus to donate $1 in order to keep their classmates in school.

The “Giving of the Green” campaign, which began March 9 and will continue through March 17, has set up donation tables around campus. Students can also give online by going to and selecting “Giving of the Green” as their designation.

SAB has also organized a St. Patrick’s Day concert featuring local bands Fictionist, Vibrant Sound, Imagine Dragons and Shark Speed. The concert will be held in the UVU Ballroom at 8 p.m. Those who donate more than $10 to the “Giving of the Green” campaign will get in free, $5 donations will allow students to purchase tickets at a discounted price of $2.

The goal of the campaign is to raise $7,000 to $8,000 to put towards UVU student financial scholarships. This includes student donations, concert proceeds, as well as donations from DigiCert.

DigiCert is a generous Utah website security company often engaged in supporting education causes, who has offered to match all student and alumni donations from this campaign up to $12,000.

“Giving of the Green is an opportunity for students to give back to the university…” said Todd Fugal, President of UVU SAB. “Give back so other students have the opportunity to excel.”
