Smith’s and Red Cross help Ike victims

In response to Hurricane Ike’s destroying sections of the Gulf Coast, two Utah organizations are stepping in to help.

Smith’s Food & Drug Store has teamed with the Mountain Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross to accept donations for its Disaster Relief Fund for the next two weeks, ending Oct. 4.

Patrons of Smith’s Food & Drug Store can make a donation by adding any desired amount to their checkout total.

“This has been an incredibly active hurricane season and the Red Cross relies on the support from the American public and companies like Smith’s,” said Jeffery Towers, Chief Development Officer for the American Red Cross.

All donations will directly benefit the Red Cross disaster relief efforts. Donations allow the Red Cross to provide shelter, food, counseling and other essentials to disaster victims.

“Smith’s feels a great commitment to the American Red Cross, a trusted organization made up of thousands of dedicated volunteers, who respond immediately to the emergency needs of our communities,” said Marsha Gilford, Smith’s vice president of public affairs.
