UVU facilities received a call at approximately 1:45 p.m. on Monday about flooding near the first floor of the Sorenson Student Center men’s and women’s bathrooms east of Costa Vida, below the Valley View Room.

Raw sewage and water was spilling out onto the bathroom floors and into the hall, due to a backed up sewer line.

“It was just isolated to the bathrooms when we showed up,” said LJ Koller, a plumber with UVU Facilities. “When stuff like this starts bubbling up out of the floor drain, then stuff starts bubbling up out of the toilets and you got yourself this kind of problem.”

Koller confirmed that the murky water was in fact raw sewage. Facilities said that repairs and cleaning can take anywhere from ten minutes to six hours, depending on the severity of the damage. Multiple bathrooms are closed in the building.

The nearest open bathroom to the Sorenson Student Center is located in the Pope Science Building.
