When the air all of a sudden turned crisp after Halloween, everyone felt the immediate damage that was inflicted on to their bodies. You woke up with your throat dry, your hands cracked, and/or your scalp itchy. Winter is harsh, especially in such a dry place like Utah Valley.

However, there are some ways to help you not feel like a scaly dinosaur on these cold mornings.

Hands

For your hands, always carry lotion with you. I know this sounds simple, but applying it every couple hours will help your skin tremendously.

If you are washing your hands frequently because of a justified fear of getting sick, your hands are going to get super dry super quick. Be sure to get the unscented kind in case anybody in your class has allergies.

Also, don’t forget to read the labels and research some ingredients that could potentially irritate your skin. It’s better to be safe than sorry.

Face

Let’s face it. Your face is your most important feature, and usually the one that is the most exposed to the harsh winds. Use a gentle cleanser for dry skin at night and again, use moisturizer to keep your face safe.

The best thing to do in the mornings after that routine is to put on some sunscreen. Sunscreen in the winter is kind of a weird thing, but harmful UV rays come out even in the winter so keep your face safe. For women, most foundations nowadays have SPF in them which makes it easier on yourself and your skin.

Feet

My favorite thing to do at night for dry feet is to rub Vaseline on them and then put some fuzzy socks on and go to bed. In the morning, your feet will be super hydrated and happy.

Scalp

Dry scalps are the worst. They make you feel unattractive and they can be really itchy. Dandruff shampoo and conditioner is really helpful. However, there is also another trick. Grab some tea tree oil and deep condition your hair before your shower. Massage the oil into your scalp, leave it in for 20 minutes, and then hop in the shower and proceed to do your normal hair routine. You can also buy a deep conditioner and/ or make or buy some hair masks.

There are some really great ones on the internet. For girls who like to do their hair with heat products in the morning, make sure to use a heat protector in your hair to avoid dry hair and split ends.

Hopefully this gave you some good ideas or an incentive to look up some other home remedies yourself. Drinking water and staying hydrated will keep the rest of your body hydrated and glowing so don’t forget to make that a priority as well.

Survive this winter looking radiant and soft, and make the best out of a dreary situation.
