The halls of the Sorensen Student Center were filled with music Friday night as hundreds of people gathered in the Grande Ballroom for the Bachata Fest 2014.

Both students and non-students, experts in bachata and novices came with their dancing shoes to dance the night away from 10 p.m. until 2 a.m. on Saturday. About 50 people chose to come an hour early to get some lessons on the dance.

By 11:30, the ballroom was so full that there was not enough space for everyone to dance at the same time, though the guests made it work.

DJ Azuquita kept the music rolling throughout the night and was a hit for all the attendees. He played a variety of bachata, ranging from authentic music of the genre to upbeat versions of current English songs.

Bachata is a Latin dance and music genre that originated in the Dominican Republic was well known and loved in other Latin countries as well.
