Weekend heroics pay off big for UVU wrestler

The UVU Wrestling team may have had a rough in California, but there’s no doubt that the shining star through the weekend was Jade Rauser. The Big 12 has recognized his dominance over the weekend as he’s been named the Big 12 Wrestler of the Week. Rouser is the second UVU wrestler to win the award this season as Chasen Tolbert won the honor Dec 1.

Rauser was the only wrestler to win his match against Stanford, beating his opponent, Eric Cramer, by technical fall. Rouser dominated Cramer from the start, racking up take down after take down to record the 20-1 victory.

The next day against CSU Bakersfield, Rauser didn’t stop his dominant ways. Rauser pinned Carlos Herrera before the end of the first period, winning his match after just 1:44. The win helped UVU take back the lead in the team scores, even though the Wolverines eventually fell to the Roadrunners.

Rauser, who has been battling injuries for the past month, is a three-time National qualifier and the senior is looking to earn his fourth straight trip to Nationals. Two big victories over the weekend sent a message, not just to the Big 12, but the nation. A message that he’s back on track and ready to compete for nationals.
