UVU’s Tiani Hensley hit a grand-slam in second inning, but it was visiting Weber State University that came out victorious 6-5 in game one of a double-header to spoil UVU’s home opener at Wolverine Field.

Hensley’s grand slam came when she had teammates Taleigh Williams, Erin Romero and Kori Barrios loading the bases. On a 1-2 pitch count, Hensley drove the ball deep into left field for her 4 RBIs on the day and gave her team a 5-3 lead.

After runs scored by Weber State in the fifth and sixth innings, Sara Hingsberger homered to left-center field off of UVU pitcher Kailey Christensen, as she provided the winning run for the Wildcats. Hingsberger ended up a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate with one RBI and two runs scored for her team.

Bailey Moore, who had pitched the first six innings for the Wolverines, went to the bench for one at-bat before returning to mound to close out the game. She finished the game giving up five runs, five walks and a strikeout.

However, the loss was credited to Christensen after giving up the game-winning homer to Weber State to her only batter faced at the top of the seventh inning.

UVU’s Brianna Gatlin also provided the team an RBI with her first-inning homer down the in-field line. Gatlin went 1-for-3 at the plate to hit .333 in the first game of the double-header against the Wildcats.

UVU next plays Weber State in the final game of the double-header beginning at 4:05 p.m. MT
