UVU softball dropped its third-straight home game 10-2 at the front end of a double-header against Oklahoma State University on Thursday afternoon at Wolverine Field.

Despite being even in the hitting battle with both teams notching seven hits, the Wolverines defense could not contain the Cowgirls’ baserunners, as a majority of their runs given up were with runners in scoring position.

In the first inning, UVU pitcher Bailey Moore gave up a 2-RBI single up the middle to Danielle Riddle. Then Oklahoma State’s Dre Mckee doubled to left field to give the Cowgirls a 4-0 start.

At the top of the third inning, Moore gave up a homer to that gave Oklahoma State a 7-1 lead that proved too much for the Wolverines to make a comeback. First, OSU’s Dre Mckee flied out to right field to bring in Vanessa Shippy for the RBI. Then with one runner in scoring position, Gessenia De La Cruz blasted a homer to left field for the Cowgirls’ second and third runs of the inning.

Moore lasted 2.2 innings and was credited for the loss, as she gave up seven earned runs, two and two walks for the Wolverines. She also finished the game with one strikeout.

UVU’s Hailey Kofler homered in the second inning for her team’s first run of the game. She finished the game hitting 1-for-2 at the plate with one RBI.

Shortstop Tiani Hensley also drove in a run for the Wolverines with her sixth-inning single that went down the right-field line to bring in Bryanna Fox. Hensley hit 1-for-2 for the game.

UVU follows this game with the second of a back-to-back against Oklahoma State at 3 p.m. today.
