Bellevue, Wash. – Kade Andrus went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles, an RBI and two runs scored to help UVU defeat Seattle University 5-2 on Saturday at Bannerwood Park.

Andrus scored the first run of the game for UVU (5-17) after walking, stealing second, and scored on a Mark Krueger groundout in the first inning.  He then doubled to left field in the third inning to score Greyson Bogden and make it 2-0.

Seattle scored a run in the bottom of the inning on a seeing-eye single with two outs by Brian Olson and then tied it up in the sixth on a two-out single by Griffin Andreychuk that brought in Brock Carpenter with the tying run.

UVU answered right back as freshman catcher Jake Atkinson homered to deep left in the top of the seventh inning and Kade Andrus scored a second time on a Jordan Schlehuber single up the middle to make it 4-2.  Schlehuber scored two batters later on a Tate Harding single for the final tally.

UVU had eight hits on the day with seven different players each collecting a hit.

Freshman Jackson Cofer pitched five strong innings only allowing one run on five hits.  Jake Myer picked up his first win in a UVU jersey as he pitched 3.1 innings of relief. Eric Olguin picked up the save as he struck out Colin Peterson, who was the tying run, to end the game.

The two teams will meet on Sunday in the series finale scheduled for 11 a.m. PT/12 p.m. MT as it has been moved up due to a thunderstorm moving in later in the day.
