Cal State Northridge 4 UVU 2, Final

Against the host, Matadors, UVU found themselves in an early hole after a pair of solo home runs made the score 3-0 after five innings.  Junior Seth Rhineer would single to start the inning and junior Mark Krueger, who would collect a pair of hits, would follow that with an RBI triple that scored Rhineer from first. Krueger would score on the next pitch as it got away from the catcher which brought UVU within a run.  Although junior Craig Brinkerhoff singled to put the tying run on with one out, it was shortlived as junior Jordan Schlehuber lined into an inning ending double play.

In the bottom of the eighth inning CSUN would push across an insurance run for the final tally 4-2.  Freshman Jackson Cofer got the start on the mound for UVU.  He struck out two hitters over 4 innings and even though he only allowed unearned run to come in against him, he would get stuck with the first loss of his college career.

Tate Harding continued his torrid start as he collected two more hits to end the opening day of his college career with 5 hits for the Wolverines.

It was a pretty ugly day at the plate for the UVU offense.  They struck out a combined 20 times in two games.  They will look to bounce back as they will face Cal State Northridge again on Saturday afternoon and then wrap things up against Gonzaga on Sunday morning.
